The DOFF Paint Removal System
The DOFF system is the only equipment approved by English Heritage to be used on historic properties to protect the fabric of the building. Manufactured by Stonehealth in Gloucestershire, these reliable units are trusted to preserve the nation's most iconic landmarks, including Westminster Abbey, Oxford University, and the Tower of London.
Unlike standard pressure washers, the DOFF system combines superheated water (up to 150°C) with a low-pressure application. This allows it to melt away stubborn paint and biological growth gently, without causing any abrasive damage to sensitive, historic surfaces.
Key Benefits:
- Non-Abrasive: Safely lifts paint and dirt without harming the underlying brick or stone.
- Highly Effective: Penetrates deep into surface layers to remove grime, biological matter, and heavy paint.
- Versatile: Perfect for detailed areas like brick reveals, vents, window surrounds, and metal pipework.
Mr Landscapes: A Certified Stonehealth Rosette Contractor
Because Stonehealth systems are specified by Architects and Conservation Officers, some unverified companies falsely claim to be 'Stonehealth Approved' to win contracts.
To protect property owners, Stonehealth introduced the Rosette Contractors Scheme.
Mr Landscapes is a fully certified member of the Stonehealth Rosette Scheme.
This accreditation is strictly awarded to trusted professionals with proven expertise in building conservation. When you choose us, you are guaranteed genuine Stonehealth equipment, operated by skilled specialists dedicated to maintaining your property with absolute precision and care.
Benefits of paint removal
Removing paint is not purely for aesthetics. Unbreathable paint can trap moisture and lead to significant dampness which over time can cause structural damage. The listed building in the photos below had severe damp and many floor joists were in terrible condition - see image below. Removing the paint and repointing with traditional lime allows the building to breathe and any moisture to escape.
